The chiefs have many many needs on defense and they could upgrade a guy or two on offense. Lets start with the defense. The chiefs are project to be just under 4 million in the cap. If they shift some contracts and maybe add some cuts to the small list of just Vonnie we would be able to do more. You would think that with a defense that played so poorly the last 3 years there would be more then 1 cut on that side of the ball.
Middle Linebacker Mike Maz needs to go. I am not sure how much cap room he would clear up but i am sure it would be around the 500k to a million mark. They need to rework Barbers deal to save some extra spending money because he hasnt produced like everyone thought. I would maybe wait another year to do this because i firmly believe if we had a solid middle linebacker and an avg D line Barber would play much much better. I really like Woods but he didnt do much last year. He has lost a step and hes not the player he used to be. I hate to say it but i would cut him for the cap space. I would also cut Dexter Mcleon. I also like him as a player but the chiefs are focusing on getting a starting CB to play along side Warfield. Whomever that is along with Warfield, Bartee as a Nickle corner and Battle as a backup and maybe drafting a CB prospect would be good. I firmly believe Warfield would be an awesome number 2 CB. If we had a Surtain, Law or Rolle, type as our number 1 i dont see too many number 2 wideouts beating Warfield, Porter of the raiders, Wayne of the colts, Burress if he stays with the steelers (which looks unlikely), Leile of the Broncos and those crazy young guys who play for the Cards maybe. Not to many others though. If we picked up a solid ML, a number 1 corner and a DL i believe i defense would show a great improvement. I hope Derrick Johnson falls to us with the 15th pick. I cant see us passing him up if he falls to us. The guy would anchor our linebacker group and i firmly believe Fujita to be a rising star and Barber would play better.
For offense i would cut Morton and Welborn. Morton just isnt playing up to par and he needs to go. He has been playing like a second stringer for 3 years and hes not worth another dime in Chiefs money. I believe Trent should rework his contract. I believe hes due to make something like 9 million this season and i dont see him as a 9 million dollar a year QB. Next i would like to see us pick up Kevin Johnson. I know he hasnt played well for the Ravens but i believe in our system he would step up and be a decent wideout for us. We could get him super cheap and i believe it would be a gamble worth taking. He has good hands and deceptive speed. I cant wait for Kris Wilson to come back so that i can see what he can do. I also have mixxed feelings about Marc Boeriger or however you spell it. He was hurt most of last seaon and if he doesnt come in and produce he should be cut ASAP. Sammie Parker looks promising and i have always liked Dante Hall as a possesion wideout. I would also like to see Blaylock come back but i dont see him staying behind Priest and LJ. Priest is also a touchy subject. I love the guy, i am a huge fan. He has what i love in a player, good work ethic, generally a nice guy, no off the field issues, he is an awesome outside and goalline runner, and hes just everything i would look for in an NFL player. But he has only had 2 healthy seasons. Last year he missed half the seaon and he missed most of the season a 2 years ago. I believe he should also rework his deal and we have a running duo with LJ and Priest.
Anyways i am just a comman man hoping my favorite team makes it to a super bowl. I i havent seen them in a super bowl my whole life and i would love nothing more then to see them win the big game. I am just trying to spark some post here i know i have said the same thing before but it seems like this board is dead, and being a big Chiefs fan i dont want to see this board look so dead.
