Red Sox manager Terry Francona told his players on Tuesday to put an end the verbal assaults on Rodriguez and the Yankees, many of which have taken place over the past week.
Boston president/CEO Larry Lucchino placed some of the blame for the situation on the New York media, but he emphasized that, as of now, the war of words would be a thing of the past. "I think there was an effort to discourage any further references or at least to resist the provocations of media folks to lead us in those kind of discussions," said Lucchino. "I was a little surprised by it. But then I learned there were a lot of New York media, and I learned a lot of these responses were in response to questioning, provocation, and all of that. I'm glad that Tito Francona has declared an end to that. Theo [Epstein] has as well. We're all going to sort of focus on this camp in this town right now and worry about the Yankees on the field when we get there."

A-Rod took the high road, according to WFAN radio in NY. There were some members of the NY media who were asking questions that could be considered provocative to continue the situation, simply because there is nothing else for the writers to report on at this time of year. A-rod refused to comment on the questions.

I'm sick of the Red Sox. OK, you won. Great, but don't push it. Someone said they've become lovable losers into hated winners. I agree. I hope A-Rod torches them next year.

If the Red Sox want to make fun of Gayrod and his high horse workout regimen, they have the right. Myself, I'd rather make fun of a team who plays their best SS at 3B and can't get to the World Series with a 200 million dollar payroll and their pick of players.

Boston Red Sox, 2004 World Series champions. I watched them dismantle my Cardinals in 4 games straight, right after doing away with the Yankees in 4 games straight.
The Yankee series either was the comeback of the century or the choke of the century.
