If they had a goal of trying to embarass themselves the most, they couldn't have come up with a better way to make it happen.

It's not like they were going to start the season Monday. They could still get the deal done and start the season as early as they thought if they prepare as if they will find a deal.

Six hours and no progress, I mean what the fuck is the problem...put the salary cap at 45 and everyone shut the fuck up and play.

They know this is the most publicity they're going to get all year and they're relishing it.

Lemieux missed a golf tournament last week to make sure this got done. I think it's going down.

There's very little he can do by himself, since he's only one of 30 owners and one of 700 players.

ECHL games are fun. I think the NHL season is as dead as Columbus.

it's not gonna happen. once the players rejected the 42.5 and the season was canceled their number is going to keep going down. this is all the result of expansion. there should only be 20 teams in the league there's not enough markets to support a hockey team.

teams that should be in the nhl: the 6 america, jr. teams, boston, chicago, philly, new jersey, nyr, nyi, detroit, st. louis, colorado, minny, dallas, los angeles, tampa, and either buffalo or pittsburgh

I agree about the over-expansion. The overall talent level is reduced, even with all of the european players whose names nobody can pronounce and there just aren't enough cities with enough hockey interest to support a team.

Even without expansion, they need to implement a salary cap. There isn't enough revenue for the players to get paid like football or baseball players.

Major problem with pro sports, big unions, but they lack the leadership to guide them. Unions were designed to protect the unprotectable, to provent the lower wage workers from being swallowed up. The sports unions on the other hand always look to protect their ceiling, and to hell with the lower rung players.

Pittsburgh and Buffalo could both stay. They're older organizations that mean more to their fans. No one would care if Tampa was kicked out.

As much as I've enjoyed watching the LA kings over the years, I'm not sure it's a good idea to have a team there (now 2 teams). The hockey fans(?) in LA are the dumbest you'll ever see. There are long term season ticket holders of over 20 years that don't know what offsides is. I'll always remember Jack Kent Cooke's line about how there are so many million Canadians in LA and they all moved there because they all hate hockey.

I'll probably always be a fan of the Kings, so I'd nominate that team. I'm just not so sure about the whole concept of hockey in CA. The kings are the oldest and most established team in CA and they have lost untold millions over the years.

I'd actually prefer the league to have less teams, but all of the teams financially healthy and competitive.

I totally am with the players. Sports franchises are a monopoly game played by millionaires, and they are playing so there is no loser on their side. Who ends up taking the loss? The players.

Changing the rules to make the game more appealing will do more to solve the problem than a salary cap. The IHL seems to do alright with revolving talent and dealing in small markets.

Sorry, but I don't quite follow this. 6 america, jr. teams???????

The teams I'd get rid of are Florida, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Nashville, Carolina, all California teams and Phoenix. There might be more, but thats all I can think of right now.

This is all contingent on the thought that eventually they get a salary cap in place (which they will eventually). Without a cap you can throw out a bunch more teams too.

What a joke, i'm to the point where i dont want to talk about hockey. Both sides disgust me, especially the players after Saturdays stunt. They had Mario and Wayne there to help them find a cap number they all could live with, but they wouldn't even talk about the salary cap. And THEY invited Mario and Wayne, not the owners.

They had an interview on TSN with Gretzky and he said when he showed up he pulled aside Damphousse and Linden to ask what the NHLPA's proposal was. When they said that they had no proposal Gretzky said he was embarassed to come out there on the players behalf and they didn't even put in the effort to propose something.

It was sham by the players. I can no longer defend them, the sooner Goodenow is gone the better. The NHLPA does not realize that any offer they get from the owners are gonna be worse than the 42.5 million Bettman offered. So far the NHL has lost over 400 million in revenue (mainly sponsors dropping out) and it's only gonna get worse. The only thing that might save a deal is ESPN, yes ESPN. ESPN more than likley wont re-new their deal if a CBA isn't in place. And the NHL needs ESPN more than ESPN needs the NHL.

Yes, thats always been my thoughts also. I can't understand why the players are out now, not getting paid and for some reason they believe that they're going to receive a better offer.
They can't seem to grasp the saying "you can't get blood from a stone" IMO.

Lemeiux was quoted in the paper today as saying pretty much the same thing as what Gretzky said about the NHLPA.
