Who is the best fantasy player?
IMO, it's Bobby Abreu. I mite be biased, but he puts up great numbers with tons of SBs every year. His OBP is about .430, and he gets tons of RBIs and runs

I'd probably do it this way:
A-Rod
Pujols
Beltran
Vlad
Abreu
Santana
Soriano
Something along those lines.....
You can make an argument for the top OFers being picked number 1, but with the depth there that knocks them down a hair.
Personally I'm a huge Vlad fan, but I'd have a tough time picking him over the other guys.

Why so high for Soriano?

Giambi.

Giambi.
I hope that Giambi ends my draft being undrafted, which probably won't happen. But if it did, then I would probably put him on my bench and then if he returns to form, which I see highly unlikely, then I will have him.
I don't want to waste a draft pick on him tho.

Abreu is good.
I like Harmon Killebrew. From Payette, Idaho.
If he is not available then Pujols would work.

Johan Santana you mean right?

Soriano plays a position that there isn't a ton of depth and he gives you avg, power, speed, rbis, etc.
That's why.

Yes, at this point Johan is probably the number 1 SP around, but some will choose RJ first or someone like Schilling perhaps.

I would have to say RJ is better.
When you look at their numbers, very identical, except for wins.
If he gets 36+ starts for the Yanks, he has a legitimate shot to win 30.
His strikeouts will be down somewhat, because of the DH, but he will still dominate. If he had 20 wins last year, he would have had more value than Santana.
I would also rate Soriano high, as well as Rodriguez, for the positions that they play. Positional scarcity is very important in snake order drafts, not so much in auctions, where there is more control. It's much easier to get good contributions from an outfielder in the later rounds than it is a catcher, 2B, or SS. The question becomes who would you rather have : a middle tier 2B or a middle tier OF??? I would rather have the middle-tier OF.

I agree. Excellent post.
As far as OFers go, I agree with that too simply b/c the average OFer will still have more stats than the average 2B, and there are more to choose from.

It depends on the league you're in. If you're in a normal, one year league, then I can see an argument made for both. If you're in a keeper league, you would be a fool to take Johnson over Santana.

That goes without saying. I base all my statements on a traditional 5x5 mixed league unless otherwise stated.

Bonds, to me is the best fantasy player. I know he wont steal bases like some guys but he will own a few categories singlehandedly. Ops/slg/obp arent issues once you have him and he'll do a number in Hr/RBI/BA/R/ basically anything except triples and SB. No one else in baseball will singlehandedly own 3 stats for you.
So heres my top 10 in order:
Bonds
Arod
Pooholes
Beltran
Abreu
Tejada
Santana
Manny Ramirez
Vlad
R. Johnson/Prior

He doesn't get enough at-bats.
In a 5x5 league, Bonds is good for runs, RBI, and HR.
Because he gets half the at-bats of Ichiro, his high average doesn't have as much impact, thus you won't see many first round picks on Bonds. Just something to consider . . . .

1. Albert Pujols - He is was dominant last year in everything from HRs, RBIS and AVG. His only downside is he doesn't steal often.
2. Alex Rodriguez - Close to first but had a down year last year when his numbers dropped except in SBs. If he can play in the pressure of New York better this year will definetely be a #1 next year.
3. Vladimir Guerrero - His power numbers went up which is a plus bad thing is stealing went down.
4. Carlos Beltran - Does everything from hitting to stealing but was last year a fluke and will a change to Shea Stadium hurt him?
5. Johan Santana - #1 pitcher overall. No doubt about. Dominates in everything and rarely had a bad start.
6. Barry Bonds - If he got pitched to he would be #1 but his walks kill his value.
7. Todd Helton - Great average, HRs and SBs but has no one in the lineup to protect him. If Preston Wilson picks up his game this could be huge for Helton.
8. Manny Ramirez - Good power hitter. Does well every year just not better than the guys ahead of him.
9. Randy Johnson - Johnson does well anywhere. He was with a crappy team last year and still pitched a perfect game. His Ks will be high and his wins will definetely go up being with Yankees.
10. Bobby Abreau - Great player all around just does not hit the long ball as often to be an elite player. Great for SBs also.

If anything his BA will go up because its a park thats really tailored to gap hitters which is what beltran really is.
