A lot more of them will now be going over to Europe for the rest of the season. There's a lot of guys who might have played their last NHL game.
With all this free time?
Most are in Asia being played lots of money. I read an article that said they are run by oil owners who have lots of money.

A lot more players will probably jump over to Europe next season too.
I really dont understand that at all, lets play for a few grand this week while we could still be making a lot under a cap in North America.
Whatever though.

It's too late anyway man. The deadline was yesterday.
Also...the players agreed to a Salary cap, which was a HUGE compromise, if you've been following the details of these arguments. It just wasn't a low enough Cap to please Bettman and the owners. And when I say owners, that doesn't mean ALL of them, because some of the owners were satisfied and just wanted to get the season going already. The commish and the other 70% of owners are simply too greedy. Granted, the players are pretty damn greedy too, but the players at least compromised...the Commish (fucking Bettman) wouldn't. Some owners even tried to talk him into it, but it was of no use. He's a moron and he's killing hockey.
Goodenow isn't the problem. Bettman is.

I'm not a fan of Hockey really in any way shape or form, but enjoy a good game now and then. Being a fan of most pro sports in general I am thoroughly disgusted by this. I think some creative pissed-off people in Hollywood should contact the James Bond folks and get permission to use the title, "The World is Not Enough" and make a totally damaging story about this. Because that is what would never be enough for anybody associated with the NHL, IMO. I don't care if any pro play or owner is in the entertainment industry. The kind of money they receive should never be bickered over. They should all be bending over and kissing each others' butts. Millions upon millions are being paid to these players and millions upon millions above and beyond that are being received by the owners. Health insurance and pentions had by those in the sport are probably rivaled only by those who work for the state or the government (military, politics, etc). These players will be able to live and give a better life to their families than most people can ever dream of. It's rediculous how childish and petty they can be about this crap. Frankly speaking I think there should really be some sort of government intervention on all sports that will channell a good chunck of that money to support government programs aimed at helping the less fortunate.
OK, I'm starting to ramble a bit so I'm going to wrap this up. All I can say is I'm just revolted by the cancelling of the season and believe it casts a shadow over pro sports in general.

Both are the problem, don't jade yourself into thinking it is all on one side.

I like your attitude excpet for the govt part.
I don't know the details either but I have to believe athletes are way overpaid already and always want the moon and more. I get rather tired of their wants.

Here's how I read the situation:
The owners had (across the league, not individually) run into a financial quagmire of their own creation, that being over-expansion and salary escalation. They decided that the only way to fix the problem was a hard cap - which I can agree with, as it gives a defined profit to both sides. Certainly there could be some swing between the football 'hard-cap, no guarantees' and a basketball 'soft cap with guaranteed contracts'.
The players didn't agree that a problem created by the owners should be fixed by hanging monkeys on their backs. And that is the entire problem - if the players would have reasonably accepted some form of cap early, then worked with the owners to make it reasonable, we'd be watching hockey right now. Once the union refused to accept any kind of cap, the owners had two options - capitulate and face the same problem a few years down the road, or tough it out and break the union. And they broke the union - not officially, but I guarantee that next season the union will not have any significant power. They'll play next year, but it will be by the rules that the owners lay down.

Very true.
Also, I heard Bettman say that if the players would've agreed to a cap earlier, things could've been worked out. Then Goodenow has his quote saying that if the league would've taken away the tie to players salaries sooner, they could've gotten something done.
Just by those two quotes, you can tell that Goodenow has already lost this and is attempting to save face. He knew the league wanted a salary cap. If he was ok with a cap, as long as it wasn't tied to players salaries, why didn't he say that months ago? The problem is, the league was asking for a cap with the tie-in, and the union flat out said no cap, period. And then later changed their minds. It appears that Goodenw doesn't know how to negotiate.

I know it's to late i was kinda kidding. But they need to have this done in order to start next season. Now Bettman is saying linkage is back in, and Goodenow is saying the rollback is off the table. So back to square one. IMO Goodenow is done, the players are pissed. His job was to get the players the best offer. Well we now know that 42.5 million was the best offer and it wont get any better than that. You dont lose the people you work for over one billion dollars and keep your job. The players will never make back that money. It's gone, rumors were it was Pronger, Roenick and Ignila who went around Goodenow to agree to a cap. A lot of players had no idea what was going on. He told them the owners would fold and it didn't happen. And after it became clear the owners weren't moving off that 42.5 million dollar cap why didn't he let the 750 players vote on it.
Bettman is a douche bag dont get me wrong i fuckin hate the guy. But the owners are the one who at fault on this. They are the ones in a BOG meeting agreed to allow only 8 owners to nix any deal.

The players went from a terribly ridiculous to a ridiculous offer, the league would still lose money with the cap that the players offered. I don't believe thats a compromise or a fair deal.

Their hot wives may not be so interested, since the paychecks aren't coming in.
