Next time we see Pro Hockey. The league will be revamped. 20 teams top. Salary cap. Luxary tax.
This league pays 75% of its revenue toward player salariees. BB, FB and BaskB, pay 50%.
The NHL as we know it, is done. And it's both the Owners (some) and the players fault.

You know something was fucked up to begin with when 75% of a league's expenses are toward payroll yet the average salary of a hockey player compared to a football or baseball player is extremely low.
Here's the question: If the league does a major re-alignment and downsizes, would fans really care? I stopped watching hockey the past two years. Two reasons for that. One, they networks didn't cater to the regional fans. Frankly, I don't want to see San Jose and LA duke it out when I'd rather see the Blues or Redwings play. The second reason is the brand of hockey got old and stale.

the NHL doesn't have the TV Contract that the other sports have to keep the league flying with salaries.

The problem isn't the cut of the NHL revenues to players, it's some teams gross over 110 million in revenues and another team generates only 55 million in revenues. In order for the NHL to survive they need to some how find out a way to share the revenue. But thats something the owners wont agree on themselves. It almost the big market owners and small market owners can to an agreement. No revenue sharing for a 31 million dollar cap. Which big markets are fine with because they will only maximie their own profits.
And dont expect teams like the Rangers, Wings, Leafs, Avs to lower ticket prices very much if at all. As long as they can sell out their building every night the demand will still be there.

I agree that some teams will not return. Which teams do you guys think will be gone? I think Pitt has to be on the top of the list.

Thats because the NHL's ratings on ESPN are lower than the World Series of Poker. Its not something they want to sink a ton of money in.
