• Adam Rubin has a great Mets preview (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/story/280328p-240258c.html) with a few interesting nuggets, especially concerning the bench:

A deeper bench, which is projected to include Andres Galarraga, Cairo, Marlon Anderson, Jason Phillips or Ramon Castro, and two of the following outfielders: Victor Diaz, Eric Valent, Kerry Robinson, Ron Calloway or Gerald Williams. (Diaz and Valent could platoon in right to start the season if Cameron isn't recovered from Dec. 17 wrist surgery, though he appears on track to be available close to the April 4 opener in Cincinnati.)

Notice which name is curiously omitted? How about Super Joe? I smell trade bait...

• Mark Hale sticks a fork in the Cliff Floyd to the Rangers rumors (http://www.nypost.com/sports/mets/40366.htm):

While Texas reports mentioned the possibility of a potential Cliff Floyd deal with the Rangers, there is currently nothing doing on that front. The Mets' other corner outfielder, Mike Cameron, remains a possibility to be dealt at some point, although there is nothing hot right now.

• Speaking of Cameron, here's a curious rumor (http://www.timesonline.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=13949537&BRD=2305&PAG=461&dept_id=478568&rfi=6):

The Pittsburgh Pirates have inquired about trading for Mets center fielder Mike Cameron in recent weeks but New York does not want to pay any of the $12.5-million left on the final two years of his contract. The Pirates have tried to entice the Mets to eat some salary by offering pitching prospects, though it is unclear which ones.

Sounds like Cameron is staying unless the Mets get overwhelmed with an offer. Good -- Omar had absolutely no pressure here. Although wouldn't it be funny if we got Matt Peterson back?
