Rudi Johnson
Bengals
Feb. 13 - The Dayton Daily News reports that Rudi Johnson's threat to sit out the 2005 season is just a ploy by him and agent Peter Schaffer to expedite the negotiating process and ink a long-term deal with the Bengals.
If nothing is worked out, Cincy can put the franchise tag on Johnson where they'll have to pay $6.323 million, the average salary of the top five NFL backs. Johnson, who is reportedly looking for a five- or six-year contract, has said he will sit out the 2005 season if the Bengals put the franchise tag on him.
As a restricted free agent in 2004 when he earned $1.8 million, Johnson started all 16 games and set team records with 1,454 rushing yards and 361 rushing attempts. He also scored 12 touchdowns.
