Octavio Dotel
Athletics
Interested - Cubs
Feb. 10 - After trading wayward relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth to the Tigers, Cubs GM Jim Hendry now is concentrating on finding a closer, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Indications are Oakland right-hander Octavio Dotel is on Hendry's short list.
Dotel, 28, made $2.8 million last season. The former Astro was traded June 24 to Oakland as part of the three-team deal that sent Carlos Beltran from Kansas City to Houston. With the A's, Dotel went 6-2 with a 4.09 ERA, 22 saves, 72 strikeouts and 18 walks in 50 2/3 innings.
Despite his solid statistics, speculation late last season was that the A's would be willing to trade Dotel for the right offer.
