Red Sox ace Curt Schilling is targeting Opening Day in New York (http://www.masslive.com/redsox/republican/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1107924301187610.xml), pitching against Randy Johson at Yankee Stadium, for his return date as he tries to recovr from ankle surgery.

After his exploits last October I'm not going to be one to doubt he'll be pitching on the evening of April 3.

Is it the smart move? Only Schilling knows how his body feels. If anyone can move up the timetable and push his body to deliver he can, but I hope he keeps in mind that the first couple weeks of the season aren't going to matter much in the long run.

"The same guy who accomplished what he did in the postseason is the same guy who's going to try to accomplish this," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "So I feel pretty good about that."
