What - Extension
Feb. 9 - The A's have put manager Ken Macha's contract extension on hold for now, the Oakland Tribune reports. There have been no negotiations since GM Billy Beane presented an initial offer to Macha's agent, Alan Nero, nearly two weeks ago.
"Don't read too much into it," Beane told the newspaper. "It really isn't worth climbing up that tree. … It's been put on the back burner."
Macha – who has won 187 regular-season games, the most for an Oakland manager in his first two full seasons since Alvin Dark won 188 in 1974 and 1975 – is entering the final season of a three-year contract and will make $600,000.
"We thought it was in our best interest that we play it out and see what happens," Macha said from his home in Pittsburgh. "… It's a non-issue for me right now. My focus is on the team and the upcoming year."
