For those of you who were in my league last season, or if you are a replacement this year, here is the link to our page with the final rosters.
http://www.geocities.com/sportznut3081/sportznut_keeper.html
As soon as I can get us signed up I will do so.
Then we can discuss any rules changes or scoring changes if necessary.
Remember you have 5 keepers.
Personally I think I have the best collection of keepers, and they are in the perfect positions too.

It's tough sportz, but if I had your team, I may protect Martinez, Blalock, Jeter, Soriano, and Oswalt. I would probably change it a couple times before finalizing it though, then grimace as I do make them final. I can really see you going a couple different ways.
Now what do you think of mine? I think I know we're I'm leaning, and I'm not telling! But a little extra input may be nice, if you wouldn't mind. Or should we not be sharing strategies?

Truth is I have too many guys, but the Slobfather does have some of the names. I won't say how many.
Bottom line is I need to figure out who I really want, what position they play, and if it's possible to get any of them back in the ensuing rounds.

You can keep your's secret now if you feel inclined.
My tentative guys are Martinez, Soriano, Blalock, Cabrera, and Oswalt.
I was considering Morneau and Beckett, but have decided enough is enough with Beckett.
I also have other potential studs in the making there.
I'm not giving away my strategy, but looking at my roster most are going to pick 4 of 5 anyways. And we will be releasing our keepers before we draft, so it won't be a secret anyways.
Now John, I will look at your roster.

Beltran, Rolen, Teixeira, Schill, and the last guy is probably between Pudge, Wood and probably Pavano.
Close to what I was thinking. I'm keeping Beltran, Rolen, and Peavy for sure. I'm really leaning towards Texeira, and he will probably be my fourth. My fifth guy I'm debating between Schilling and Wood.
Schilling will be dominating, if his ankle is 100% healed. But how many more years does he have left?
Wood probably won't have great numbers this year, as I don't expect the Cubs to be all that great. But he's young and very good, so he's a great keeper for the future.
I thought about Pudge, his average helped me a lot last year, but I don't know. His numbers will fall this year, there's no question about that. I just have to determine how much I think they will fall.
I thought about Pavano, but he doesn't get enough K's, which is why I'm debating between Schilling and Wood. Gotta love the K's those two guys bring.
Well, thanks for your insight!

Well one thing I'm NOT going to discuss with you is what I'd do in ANY situation that could affect any edge I might be able to get. In fact I will post many of these info threads, but you have no idea what I'm doing or if I have more links that I'm not posting. I'm a competitive guy, and lazy by nature. For one I'm looking for that edge somewhere, and number 2 if I'm lazy, I'm not doing all the work for someone else. lol

lol, I don't expect you to do the work. Sometimes it's just nice to have someone look at your roster and go off the top of their head who they would keep.
I know my top 3 for sure: Tejada, Johnson, and Dunn. My other 2 are between Lowell, Delgado, Hafner, Webb, Rivera, and Pierre.

I have no reason to complain. My keepers are great now and very young (except Soriano).
I just need to fill in the missing pieces.
I really wanted to keep either Webb or Oliver PErez, but I'm not going through that crap again with pitching this year again. I had RJ, Webb, Perez, and Glavine all pitching out of their ass, but their teams scored around 2 runs a start for them...LOL

Some of the guys who are taking over teams aren't going to have much as far as keepers (although Slob gets Pujols.....bastard).
So I'm going to assume everyone is going to take the best players, old or not, and maybe look into dealing them.
I suppose you could also gear part of your draft towards keepers for the following year hoping they pan out THIS year too.
There are many ways to conquer it. What would I do? I'm not telling. lol

BTW, John brought up a good point that I hadn't thought about.
We are going to "draft" our 5 keepers in the first 5 rounds. What that means is when we draft the rest of our teams, we will be in round 6 and the order will be backwards with number 12 picking first.
So I'm going to draw numbers for everyone, and then reverse them so it's in the proper order.
So if I draw your name for number 1, you'll actually be drafting number 1 in the 6th round, but according to Yahoo you'll be last in the order in the first round.
Do you follow me?
Yeah I get it. No going in order of final records then eh?

I am not aware of what Slob set you up in, but this is my league, not Slob's.
I am supposed to have every spot filled, but if I don't, I'll let you know.
If that's the case you will inherit a team and then have to name 5 keepers two weeks prior to our draft.
But for now the Slobfather is running at least one league, and I am running a league. We are both in each other's leagues. So it could get a little confusing.

I really like fantasy baseball, and this year I'm more excited than ever. Probably because it's year two of my first keeper league, so that always makes it a little more exciting. But for me, there's nothing like fantasy football. Especially if you're playing with a bunch of friends you feel comfortable trash-talking with.

Just so you know Idaho, the league that I created is a compilation of a few guys that I have been posting with for a very long time, and a few people that are from my neck of the woods here in Oscoda.
I have been building the league for a few years now. Getting rid of the people that become dead teams, and keeping the ones that are always active. For the most part, its a very competitive league, and guys stay active.
I have to see exactly where I'm at, but I probably will be adding at least one more manager from these boards (in addition to Idaho). The only thing I really expect out of a manager is that he stay 100% active, even if he has a crappy team.

I have considered Beckett, but I'm tired of him not reaching his potential. He's just one of those guys that drives me nuts.

I didnt suggest Blalock or Miggy cause of the depth at 3b and OF. Id go with Blalock over Cabrera though cause the opportunity to replace Miggy is greater with 90+ starting OF's available as opposed to only about 15 good 3b.

For those of you here, and in my league I have been considering doing something.
Now I'm not going to decide anything right now, but I'm considering the option of trading players BEFORE naming your keepers.
All those deals would have to be approved by me, and you would still be required to name your keepers no later than 2 weeks before the draft date.
Do you like that idea or no?
Considering the makeup of my team it wouldn't bother me either way, but for some (especially the new guys), maybe this would be a way for them to acquire someone they want that they might not get their hands on otherwise. Well at least not until the draft or after that.

That would really help out the new guys, that got stuck with a less than stellar team. I would be all for this. Not only to help me build my team, but because it will allow us to get involved a little earlier.

I won't be allowing 6 for 1 deals however, but I think this would be something to get everyone going immediately, then name their keepers, then consider dealing draft picks, then the draft.
Imagine my funnest part (the draft) really being the 4th bit of strategy? I think that would be cool.

I would still allow the other managers to veto down any trdaes if they so choose. Or as commish, you can keep that power until the league actually opens up. I'm sure everybody trusts your judgement like I do.

I will open it up for voting once the draft is over, but I think I might leave it to myself before then.
Of course I might still ask for opinions, but the final decision BEFORE we name keepers most likely will be mine. I just think it'll be easier that way.

I don't know if I'll do that one or not. I don't want it to get too confusing for the commish.
I really think I should stick to the 5 keepers rule.
And once everyone is accounted for and signed up in the league, I will randomly draw the numbers. You will know well in advance where you'll be picking, but for now the first 5 rounds will be off limits for dealing.
I'm not sure I like the idea of one guy keeping 5 and another keeping 2.
I'd rather everyone had the same amount.

I would have to agree 100% with that SN. Lets keep it simple, and draft picks can be traded on draft day.
BTW...I still have some damn good pitching on my team if somebody wants to deal.

I'm guessing that was a typo?
I don't want the hassle of draft day trading. Everyday up till then will be game though.

I was still saying keep five players. My thought was... Say I have a player you want to keep, but I probably won't keep him. You trade me a draft pick for him, and we both still get to keep five players. The only negative to this would be that I now I have the same amount of players and more draft picks than everyone else.

Sorry pal. I don't agree with you on this one.
We'd either have a difference in the keepers or in the draft picks, or both.
I understand what you're saying.
Certainly I have quite possibly 7-8 guys that some people would keep on their teams.
I could trade those guys for picks, but that's something I won't even consider unless everyone has the same number of picks.
Also keep in mind you'd be dealing a 6th rounder at the very least, not a 1st.
But if I deal 3 guys for 6th and 7th rounders, then what?
The only solution would be to deal a player AND a very low pick for that 6th rounder.
That's something I'll consider, but I don't think I'd be interested in unless there was someone I really wanted.

My tenative five keepers are Adrian Beltre (3B), Magglio Ordonez (RF), Craig Biggio (LF), Jeremy Bonderman (SP), Roy Halladay (SP). I had a tough time last year with injuries and such so hopefully this year it gets better. Any suggestions are welcome, my team was not too great.

Roch, I don't know what you'll be able to pull off, but what do you think of the chance to make deals with your entire roster BEFORE you're required to name keepers?
Certainly it couldn't hurt.

Those are Sundays, right? If they are, either day and either time works for me. I may be impartial to the noon time slot, but won't have any problems making the 8:00 time if that's what everyone else wants.
So to make it shorter, any of those four times works for me.

Or if you don't want to that's cool too, but you can always donate sullies my way!

Rip I know everyone was scrambling and all confused, but nothing confused me more when I looked back and realized that K-Rod didn't go until round 8.
So both of us had the chance to get him on more than one occasion.
I like Nathan, but I like K-Rod and that team even more.
Definitely. I totally lost K-Rod because I had realm taking him for me in the 6th, but he wasn't there. Then i saw Lidge so I grabbed him. I forgot I had to tell Yanks to pick for me. I was confused as hell for like 3 rounds after the first 5. I totally missed that he was still around at my 7th round pick. I had a plan to take a big closer in the 6th with one of my picks and load up on hitters the rest of the way because my starters were so good. I'd say that K-Rod was about the biggest steal out there.

I absolutely agree.
I really ended up with the guys that I wanted all along if they had fallen to me in the first place, but I think part of it was luck, and the other part was that I had just enough time to think it over since I was drafting last in the 6th round.
Either way I wanted a SS and a closer with my two picks, and Slob's. The other pick was going to be a SP or something else....possibly a 3B or Patterson who I like this year.
Then since I still had two more picks coming up I would address one of the other spots, and I was then going to jump on Berkman b/c I didn't know if he'd make it back to me in the 9th.
As it was Roch wasn't there so I lost one of those picks, and had Spuds take Berkman.

I didn't get who I wanted in the draft, but I like how the trades are going so far. Beltre (although that's a little cheap, it's in the rules) and Santana. I couldn't believe realm traded me Santana. With Peavy and Johan, I will have a great pitching staff for many, many years.

I was definitely looking to take Berkman that round too. You got him before I could. I think he is way underrated. Guy just signed a 6 year deal so he should be a nice guy to keep around.
I looked at Patterson too, but didn't follow my strategy too well. After I knew I was getting Vlad I kind of threw my draft strategy out the window. I don't think I had a very good draft. I did get about 10 guys that are capable of 30+ homeruns though and 5 or six with 100 RBI potential. I'd like to see Cameron put together a decent year with Beltran around now. Alou is kind of a big loss for me now that Bonds is out for an indefinite amount of time. I only drafted him early because he was batting behind Bonds.

Well the Bonds injury might have a positive effect on me since I took the very versatile Feliz really late in the draft.
If not anything else, he will be able to fill in for me all over the field and he'll be playing everyday while putting up decent numbers.
He very well could be a great steal for me.
You guys kind of draft like I do. I had some plans for the first because I knew that Nut had all those picks before my 7th rounder, but I screwed that up as well as that pick with realm not being there. It was nice though that 3B had been drafted by everyone, but us so I knew I could pretty much bypass that the whole first round. I was looking at getting Wright possibly, but he got drafted in the 3rd...lol. I see you got McPhearson though which is a pretty good stash pick. Guy has back problems, but it seems he is considered a bigger long term threat than Wright.

Well there will be some solid 3B on the wire b/c of this fiasco, but we don't have a chance at getting them.
True. Not like we need them. Chipper is OK. I got old ass Castilla too. HE should be good for 20 and 80. I see you don't have any. If Slob takes Mora you might be in luck. He'll trade him. I would take him if I had #1, but I already have pitching. If I was him I'd probably snag Pedro.

Yeah, I gave up two keepers to get Santana. But, you have to give something good up to get something good. Besides, I really needed another quality starter, and who's better than Santana? Not many.
Also, I traded Rolen, and replace him with Beltre. Beltre will slip some from last year, those numbers were video game-like. But he will still put up good numbers.
And Morneau may be a solid keeper, we don't really know. But Texeira is a very good keeper. No question about that.
Look at my five potential keepers for next year:
Santana
Peavy
Beltran
Beltre
Texeira
Damn good and young.
Of course, that doesn't mean everything. I'm still trying to surround that core with a solid group of players. I have a few stats where I will be weak, but should still be in the hunt come playoff time.

LOL...I figure I'm at #1 priority with Higy gone. Doesn't matter all that much. Pretty easy choice for you since you see that Mesa comes off waivers tomorrow and Mauer is on for a few days. You'll know who took by then.
Kind of curious about how the priority works though. Never really been able to figure it out. So suppose I were to take Mesa I would drop back to the end right? Then I would slowly move up as others snagged waived guys only? So if nobody ever took a guy that had been waived after that I would be at the end of the line in perpetuity correct?

Yes you are correct.
You basically only move up when others ahead of you make claims.
So there is a strategy involved if there's a certain rookie or someone else that you want that isn't even in the game yet.
You know like a Kurt Warner or Albert Pujols in their first years?
You never know and in baseball it's more likely to happen.
Or it could be just some dumbass that dumps a good player.
As far as the two guys you speak about on the wire right now, they both have their plusses and minuses.
I'm not overly excited about either one really. I need a closer and Mauer is at a good position and keeper material. Other than that I don't really need anyone else on there that I would have to put waiver claims on right now. Although I do have to admit I was pretty suprised to see Mauer pop up on there this morining.
