Here we go again, more talk of superstar wide receiver Randy Moss being linked to Gang Green. (http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/ny-spmoss074137853feb07,0,1615564.story?coll=ny-sports-headlines&vote16185532=1) Vikings owner Red McCombs has given the team permission to deal Randy Moss, something he had not done in previous years. Although any deal may have to wait until after the sale of the team is completed (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1985687), according to ESPN.com, the Jets are included in the teams that have interest. Chad Pennington would be all for the move, "I think he'd be a great teammate," Pennington said in a telephone interview yesterday. "He would be right there for us. But I wouldn't trust the outside opinions on him because I think too much attention would be placed on what he's done off the field rather than on the field. I think there'd be a lot of distractions for him as a person." What would the Jets have to give up for someone of Moss' caliber? The asking price is expected to be 2 first round draft picks and at least one player, probably a defensive starter. That's a huge price to pay, but it just may be the right thing for Gang Green. The team is one legitimate playmaker away from being a Super Bowl contender. Moss would certainly fill that void. Another piece of the puzzle that would seem to fit, is the fact that the Jets should be well under the cap in 2005.
It certainly seems like the makings for a deal are there. Here is one that makes sense for both teams, John Abraham and a first round pick for Randy Moss. This way the Jets can put the franchise tag on Lamont Jordan and add Moss to the offense as well. The team could use the money they save in resigning Abraham to pay Moss and could restructure his deal for the long-term.
