Feb. 7 - Eric Byrnes - the subject of trade talks most of the winter - signed a one-year, $2.2 million contract Feb. 4 to remain in Oakland. "I'm as excited as I can be to still be with the Oakland A's right now," Byrnes told the San Francisco Chronicle. "As for the contract, I enjoyed the whole process."
Byrnes' deal includes a $25,000 bonus if he's traded. If Byrnes makes 350 plate appearances, the deal jumps to $2.225 million, and if he notches 400 plate appearances, it will be worth $2.25 million total - the midpoint of the $2.5M Byrnes filed for and the $2M the A's countered with.
Byrnes, who turns 29 on Feb. 16, hit .283 with 20 home runs and 73 RBI in 143 games last season.
