With pomp and circumstance fitting the arrival of a treasured artifact the ball used for the final out of Boston's first World Series title in 86 years (http://www.masslive.com/sportsflash/baseball/index.ssf?/base/sports-9/1107452559185280.xml&storylist=baseball)arrived at Fenway Park on Thursday.
Red Sox Nation can now rest easy that the ball will not be locked inside a safe deposit box belonging to former Boston first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz into eternity.
"I want the fans to see it, and that's what both the Red Sox and I agreed on," Mientkiewicz said last week after he was traded to the New York Mets. "They waited a long time to see that ball and to live it. The fact that I had it was just so we could keep it and give it to the fans and let them see it."Of course the Red Sox took no chances with the ball, having it carried into Fenway by a pair of armed guards who walked down a red carpet. Too funny.
