Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics agreed to terms with outfielder Eric Byrnes on a one-year contract on Friday.
Byrnes was eligible for arbitration, leaving the A's with one arbitration eligible player -- right-handed pitcher Juan Cruz. Cruz has a hearing scheduled for Monday, February 14.
Byrnes had the best season of his career in 2004, hitting .283 with 20 home runs, 73 RBI, 39 doubles and 17 stolen bases -- all career highs.
The 28-year-old Byrnes hit .344 against left-handed pitching, which was the third best mark against southpaws in the American League.
