It seems Curtis Martin has decided, although not officially, to hang it up after two more seasons. Martin made the comments down in Jacksonville (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/story/277312p-237543c.html), where he was accepting an award for the Fed Ex Ground Player of the Year for running backs. Martin was asked about breaking Emmitt Smith's rushing record and his answer hinted he's getting close to the end. "It's realistic if I want it to be," Martin told a small group of reporters. "It's definitely something I could do if I decide to play that long. I'm just not sure I'll play that long." I have no problem with Martin playing two more years and then hanging them up, I just hope it doesn't cost them a chance to keep Lamont Jordan.
Martin was also asked about his chances of winning a Super Bowl with the Jets. "I don't plan on retiring without a Super Bowl ring, and I don't plan on playing too many more years," Martin said. "I expect to be (in the Super Bowl) within the next couple of years. I want to say, 'Mark my words,' but I just believe we're going to be here in the next couple of years." It definitely makes you feel good as a Jets fan to hear Curtis say that. What should help is the fact that the Patriots are facing a coaching staff shake-up (http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-5/1107324606194630.xml), with the departure of Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel, the team's offensive and defensive coordinators respectively. That could enable the Jets to jump up to the Patriots in the division and possibly get the team a home game or two for the playoffs.
Oh yeah, the Super Bowl will be played this Sunday (http://www.nj.com/eagles/times/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1107421713117141.xml)and I know your wondering who I'm picking to win. Okay, so your not wondering, but I'll let you know anyway. As much as I want to believe that the Eagles can win the game, I just don't think it will happen. The Patriots will earn the team's third Super Bowl Title with a 24-13 win over Philadelphia. The good news is, that will be it for the Pats, they will finally go away for a while and Gang Green will step into the spotlight!
