Jerome Bettis
Steelers
Interested - Retirement?
Feb. 2 - If Jerome Bettis decides to return for his 13th season, he would be content to remain a backup to Duce Staley, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. "My situation is very temporary," Bettis said from Jacksonville, Fla., where he was featured as a guest on "The Dan Patrick Show" on ESPN Radio. "I wouldn't want to disrupt that type of flow (with Staley as the starter). That is not my role anymore and I understand that and I'm comfortable with that."
Before he commits to another season, Bettis wants to be sure that he is physically ready. "I need to give my body a chance to heal up a little bit," Bettis said. "It hinges on the physical nature of the game and if I can do it. People say, 'He looked great,' but what people don't understand is it takes its toll."
