Magglio Ordoņez

Interested - Tigers, Cubs, Mets, Orioles, Rangers

Feb. 2 - According to Newsday, the Mets have talked about pursuing Magglio Ordoņez and could offer him a deal worth as much as $70 million over five years.

The Tigers reportedly made an five-year offer last week (between $55-70 million), and agent Scott Boras countered with a seven-year proposal. The Cubs are unlikely to go more than two years in any contract offer to Ordonez, who is coming off a knee injury.

But it's possible Boras could structure a multiyear contract for certain teams that has an "out" after the first year, the Detroit Free Press reports. Ordonez, 31, would play one year for about $15 million, show he's healthy and productive, and then head back on the free-agent market next season, when he might be the most attractive player available.

Ordoņez will work out for potentially interested parties later this week, but the Rangers won't be among the teams in attendance, The Dallas Morning News reports.
