Cliff Floyd
Mets
Interested - Cubs
Jan. 31 - According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Cubs might make a deal with the Mets for Cliff Floyd. The Cubs feel Floyd can pick up the production slack left by Sammy Sosa's departure.
Mets GM Omar Minaya considered a Sosa-for-Floyd trade late last week, Newsday reports. In the deal, the Cubs were willing to make up the $3.8-million difference between the $13.2 million remaining on Floyd's deal and the $17 million due Sosa in 2005. So the Mets would have had to pay Sosa $13.2 million for one year rather than Floyd for two.
In 113 games last season, Floyd hit .260 with 18 homers, 63 RBI and 103 strikeouts.
