Magglio Ordoņez

Interested - Tigers, Rangers, Orioles, Mets, Cubs

Jan. 30 - Magglio Ordoņez's agent made a counteroffer Thursday to the Tigers, who impressed the free-agent outfielder when they met earlier this week.

"Mike Ilitch indicated he was interested in making a move that would dramatically affect the franchise," Ordoņez's agent, Scott Boras, said. "Magglio called me today and instructed me to make an offer to the Tigers, which we did."

The Rangers appear to be falling out of the running, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. They thought Ordoņez might agree to a short term, incentive-laden deal, however Boras is talking as long as seven years.

"I would still consider us to be extreme long shots in the Magglio Ordoņez sweepstakes...," Rangers GM John Hart told the newspaper. "There are still a number of issues, not least of which is the financial parameters. There's the fact that he does not want to DH, etc."

Ordoņez hit .292 last year with nine homers and 37 RBI, but missed most of the season because of a knee injury that needed two operations.
