So the Jets did the ole' Quarterback Sneak for the final 7 weeks of the season, including two playoff games. It seems everyone in the Jets organization knew that Chad had a torn rotator cuff. (http://www.nypost.com/sports/jets/39344.htm) According to the team doctors though, Chad had minimal risk in injuring the shoulder any further. In fact, the MRI taken after the final game against Pittsburgh revealed the same results as the one taken after the injury occurred in November. Team doctor Elliot Pellman says that Pennington should be back throwing by the beginning of June, but he cautioned that there are still risks. "We are optimistic that Chad will do absolutely fine, and we are optimistic that, in fact, he will be ready for training camp," Pellman said. "Given that, however, it is surgery, and there are black holes with any type of surgery. We will have to wait and see."
So if Chad isn't back in time for training camp, do the Jets go out and grab a quarterback for insurance? (http://www.nj.com/jets/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1106810020322570.xml)The answer is no at this point, according to GM Terry Bradway, who is down in Mobile for the Senior Bowl this week. "Right now, we've got Brooks (Bollinger) and Ricky (Ray)," Bradway said. "We haven't even really thought about if there's somebody else we'd want to bring in." I'm sure it depends on just how fast the Pennington rehab goes during the spring. That will be the deciding factor on whether or not the team signs another QB.
The Lamont Jordan rumors are heating up already, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are thought to be interested in making a run at the soon-to-be free agent running back. (http://bucs.tbo.com/bucs/MGBXNOVXE4E.html)Now that the team has hired Paul Hackett...insert "Can't Hackett" joke here...as the quarterback coach, the thinking is that the connection is there and it's a good fit for Jordan. I'm not sure I agree though, wasn't it Hackett who failed to give Jordan enough opportunities the last few years? I'm not so sure Jordan will be rushing to be reunited with coach Hackett.
