Bob Tewksbury
Red Sox
Jan. 27 - Former pitcher Bob Tewksbury, who retired in 1998 after a 13-year career, signed a one-year contract earlier this month with the Red Sox, agreeing to serve as their sports psychology coach, the Chicago Tribune reports. He will help players handle off-the-field issues, as well as bolster confidence and self-esteem.
Tewksbury went back to college after retiring and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in sports psychology and counseling from Boston University. "Sports psychology certainly has a stigma to it," Tewksbury told the newspaper. "But I played, so I have credibility with the guys. This is what I want to do the rest of my life."
