Jan. 27 - Looking to bolster their outfield defense, the Mariners might pursue a trade with the Mets that would bring center fielder Mike Cameron back to Seattle, The Seattle Times reports. Cameron appeared in 610 games with the Mariners from 2000-'03.

According to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, the Mets likely will keep Cameron for now and explore other possible outfield options during spring training – especially if Cameron changes his mind about playing right field.

Last week, Oakland GM Billy Beane blasted a Bay-area report that said the A's had proposed an Eric Byrnes-for-Cameron trade to the Mets. "It's absolute fiction," Beane told MLB.com. "There is not an ounce of truth to that story whatsoever."

Cameron, who's owed $14 million over the next two years, is expected to miss the start of the season after having offseason surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left wrist.
