Jan. 21 - Carlos Delgado and his agent David Sloane met with the Rangers on Friday. "[Owner] Tom Hicks said that he was going to come to Puerto Rico and give it his best shot and he did all that and more," Sloane said in an e-mail. "We will be talking to them again tomorrow in an attempt to sustain the positive momentum we generated today."

Delgado met with the Mets for three hours Thursday. While the Mets opened the vault for Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran, they appear to be exercising some financial restraint with Delgado. According to several New York-area reports, they walked away from their meeting with Delgado without blowing the Marlins' offer (three years, $35M) out of the water:

New York Daily News: Three years, $11-12M annually
New York Post: Three years, $34M
Newsday: Three years, $33M
Bergen Record: Three years, $33M

In Thursday's Baltimore Sun, Sloane told the newspaper that he never received a modified offer from the Orioles – $30 million over three years – and that he was still working with the team's three-year, $25 million offer made last month. "We've received one offer and one offer only," Sloane told the newspaper.

The Orioles' front office, according to The Washington Post, has not been able to persuade owner Peter Angelos to increase the team's initial bid.

Sloane, who missed the first meeting with the Mets, has asked teams for a five-year deal, for around $15 million a season, The New York Times reports. Delgado might command an annual salary somewhere between $12.8 million (Adrian Beltre) and $17 million (Carlos Beltran).
