Doug Mientkiewicz
INTERESTED - Mets?
Jan. 19 - According to the Boston Globe, one of the Red Sox's first basemen – Doug Mientkiewicz or Kevin Millar – is likely to be traded before spring training. "They both deserve to be everyday players," GM Theo Epstein told the newspaper. "Both can help the team win a championship. Both bring different things to the table. I'd like to have both of them."
The Sox' decision about first base will depend on where Carlos Delgado signs, Insider's Bob Klapisch reports. Once Delgado makes his choice, there'll be three teams (Mets, Marlins, Rangers or Orioles) looking for a first baseman, all of whom will be calling Epstein.
Millar, 33, is scheduled to make $3.5 million this season. Mientkiewicz, 30, is due $3.75 million.
