Paul Konerko
Jan. 19 - The White Sox once again face the prospect of trying to re-sign one of their best players – but while the Magglio Ordonez drama deteriorated quickly last season, negotiations with first baseman Paul Konerko are expected to go smoothly, the Chicago Tribune reports. "I'm pretty easy to deal with," Konerko told the newspaper. "I'm not a guy who is out to get every last penny or say, 'Sign me now or I'm going to go.'"
Konerko has averaged 27 home runs and 94 RBI while hitting .283. in six seasons in Chicago. Though there's no urgency to get a new contract done, Konerko would be willing to sign immediately and risk losing a couple of million dollars on the open market, as long as the deal was fair.
"This organization gave me a chance to play, and I have no problem being loyal to them," said Konerko, who will earn $8.75 million in the final year of a three-year pact. "If that costs me money down the road, fine. The question is how much money, because … I have an obligation to my fellow players to get a good deal and fair deal for what the market is."
