Jan. 19 - Mike Cameron is willing to play right field for the Mets – but he isn't thrilled about it. "Right now, I'll kind of do what I can to help the team. It's going to be a transition," Cameron, a two-time Gold Glove winner in center, said Tuesday. "That's the plan right now, to see what happens and kind of go with it. I've been going through a lot of mixed emotions."

There was speculation that Cameron was unhappy and had asked to be dealt, but GM Omar Minaya said that wasn't true.

Regardless of what position he's playing, Cameron is expected to miss the start of the season following surgery to repair damaged cartilage in his left wrist. He said he's healing faster than expected and should be able to do everything but hit when spring training starts.

Cameron has drawn enough interest from other teams that the Mets might sign Carlos Delgado first, if necessary, then trade Cameron, the New York Daily News reports. A Mets team source confirmed that A's GM Billy Beane is considering a deal that would send outfielder Eric Byrnes and right-handed reliever Chad Bradford to New York for Cameron.

He is owed $14 million over the next two seasons.
