Cameron Tells Mets He'll Work in Right
By TYLER KEPNER

Published: January 19, 2005

The Mets have spent much of the winter courting free agents from other teams. Yesterday, on their way to visit their academy in the Dominican Republic, they visited a player already under contract.

Mike Cameron, the former Gold Glove center fielder who lost his position when the Mets signed Carlos Beltran, met with several club officials at a restaurant in Atlanta, near his off-season home. Omar Minaya, the Mets' general manager, said the team requested the meeting and was pleased to hear that Cameron did not want to be traded.

News
The Athletics have made a formal trade proposal to the Mets that would see outfielders Eric Byrnes (http://bigleaguers.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/6558/) and Mike Cameron (http://bigleaguers.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/5492/) switch teams. A team source confirmed the offer with the Contra Costa Times on Wednesday. The New York Daily News reported that A's relief pitcher Chad Bradford (http://bigleaguers.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/6061/) would also be in the deal, but the team source would not confirm that news. This rumor has been bouncing around for a while now, and we're guessing the Mets are waiting for Carlos Delgado (http://bigleaguers.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/5178/) to announce his decision before they make any other deals. We'll continue to track this trade news and provide analysis if it actually happens.
