Lots of interesting info for a small article. I'm interested in what Minaya means when he says he'd give up "a lot" for Byrnes. He obviously wants to clear salary so he can sign Delgado, but how much of Cameron's (or Floyd's ?!?!?!?) salary would the A's really be willing to take on? Or would they even be open to such a trade? And what constitutes "a lot?"

This is also the first time I've seen an official word from Cameron's camp that he is unhappy switching to right field. Until now I've been dismissing those articles as rumor/speculation.

As they look to make room on the payroll for Carlos Delgado, the Mets are exploring a possible trade for the A's Eric Byrnes. According to a source familiar with the Mets' thinking, GM Omar Minaya would be willing give up "a lot" for the outfielder, who played all three positions last year, batting .283 with 20 home runs, 73 RBI and 17 stolen bases.

The A's sent out a feeler regarding Byrnes several weeks ago, but the Mets' sudden shift comes as they're mulling deals for Cliff Floyd and Mike Cameron. Oakland GM Billy Beane may be willing to take on Cameron, considering he tried to sign him as a free agent after the 2003 season.

Cameron chose the Mets, but could be re-thinking that decision. He recently told Minaya he'd be uncomfortable switching positions now that Carlos Beltran will be playing center. According to Cameron's agent, Mike Nicotera, "Mike has some reservations about it," although he stressed that no trade has been demanded.

The Mets aren't acting under that assumption. A team official said, "It probably just hit home that he's not going to be playing center anymore." Still, the Mets appear to be open to moving Cameron as they pursue Byrnes.

I know Byrnes is due for a salary boost, although I'm not suire how much he will be making. Its not as much as Camerons 7 mil though. If trading Cameron for Byrnes is what allows us to get Delgado, I am for it. But I also wonder how much/if any salary that Beane will take on. If he doesn't want to have Byrnes with his rise in salary, why Cameron?

IMO it makes no sense though cause Byrnes might be the better player here.

Personally, I dont believe anything Klapisch writes cause hes about as anti mets as it comes.

Klapisch is a tool, but I have heard the Byrnes rumors before this. I don't think it really makes sense for this trade, but lets hope it happens,as it would allow Delgado to come in.

Byrnes, like I said before is a very comprarable player to Cameron and younger. Still coming from Klapischi have my doubts about the stories validity.
