View Full Version : Nats possibly after Sosa, decline comment
They have declined to comment on a deal for Sosa. They want the cubs to pay all of Sosa's salary and they are trying not to give up any young players. Although T Sledge was the rumored player the cubs wanted. Heres a link

The cubs dont need pitching, they dont seem to need infield, but they could use out fielders.

Please pick up Sosa and Delgado before Angelos feels the need to throw away his money.
Just to be safe, contact Belle's agent too.
Well, speaking as an O's fan I'm torn.
I don't want the Cubs to trade Sosa because if they do that means they will surely sign Ordonez and I'm still holding out hope that the O's will sign Maggs.
But, as pitpen mentioned, if they don't trade Sosa to SOMEONE, there is a chance that the O's will do something stupid like trade for him.
From the Nats perspective, if they can get him for next to nothing I suppose it woud be a decent PR move. I don't think Sosa is anything close to the player he used to be, but he might bring some excitement to RFK that the current Nats couldn't.

I'm split on Ordonez. He could have a great season, or he could turn into a Segui. Also, Matos was pretty bad at the plate last year, but he is a very good fielder and was batting well the season before last. He could have a breakout year, although I doubt it.
Man, I hate Matos.
I hear so many people talking about how young he still is and how much potential he has in his swing, but he has been playing pro ball for 9 FREAKING YEARS already and he hasn't gotten it yet.
Plus, he is ALWAYS injured.
Oh, and I think Maggs is a much safer bet than Segui was. The writing was on the wall with Segui whereas this past season was Ordonez's first where he missed any significant time since he came up.
Sure, there is a risk there, but the reward could be great.

There are a lot of clubs interested in signing Magglio Ordonez at a low low price. The team he signs with will be the one that offers the best incentives, the most reasonable injury-out-clauses.
At this point, it is to Ordonez's advantage to let another month slip by. Heal. Let pressure build among teams that have been frustrated by their inability to upgrade this winter...
I dunno, if the Cubs end up paying for his salary, it could be a good way to get more people out to the park. A big name like sosa couldnt hurt.
