Theres not much left so I guess its the best they can do for now. They had better not pay too much for him though. Was pretty crummy last year for the yankees.

This offseason has been pretty crummy as far as free agent pitching is concerned. Of course, don't tell that lawyer in Baltimore that. Anything we pay for free agent is going to be considered out of the market for the AL Fraud.

Please, if they offer Loaiza anything more than food stamps, they're over-paying....take this from someone who suffered through 2 years of his crapitude watching the Blue Jays.

I read a quote from someone in the organization saying, "He's someone that could eat up a lot of innings". What about winning?

Didn't he win 21 games in 2003 and just missed the Cy Young for the Stinky (White) Sox?:)

A career .529 WPCT/98ERA+ pitcher posts a .700 WPCT/154 ERA+ season. 2003 seems like a "lightning in a bottle" season to me...

Natspos with any sort of talent is scary to me, though. It's a shame they moved to Washington a couple years too late to keep Vlad (well, a shame for them).
I could honestly see the Phillies finishing in last place in the NL East.

Exactly. Eating up innings if they aren't quality are useless. Might as well let a cheaper player or minor league call up do that if you don't care how many runs are given up.

Well, that's the thing.
The Nationals are hardly alone in looking for pitching help. If a journeyman, which is what Loiaza has become, can eat 180 or so innings, it's nothing to be sneezed at. You can't count on a rookie providing that, and if an established pitcher can do it, he's going to command decent FA dollars or a prospect or two on the trade mart.
Nats land Loaiza.
