Wow, my opinion is this is pretty dumb. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim? I like Anaheim Angels, it's got a little ring to it. Or go back to California Angels, if a name change is necessary. What do you Angels fans think of it?

Right on John. I agree that if a name change is in order, revert to California Angels. If you really want to appeal to a larger fan base, win ball games. That works every time. Just like in '02, everybody jumps on the bandwagon of a winning team. Hey, I know; how about the Global Angels. You wanna talk about a fan base?

Suppose they called the Mariners the Seattle Mariners of Tacoma. Nope, just doesn't jibe.

The perfect example would be the New Jersey (football) Giants of New York. How cumbersome...

Okay, I've had a week to consider it. I know, my first reaction was that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim sound ridiculous, a great example of cognitive dissonance. But after mulling it over for a week...no, it's still ridiculous. Wishing to appeal to a broader fan base, Arte is going to alienate existing fans.

This is now the dumbest name I can think of in sports. What is he thinking?
He'll only alienate BOTH LA and Anaheim doing this.

Plus, the players are going to be subjected to stupid questions by the press: "What does Vlad Guerrero think of the hideous moniker bestowed upon the team by an owner bereft of reason?"

It's gonna be tough to fit all that into a box score.

Now my head's really spinning. I wish Arte Moreno was here to help me figure it out.
