Dimensions: Left field: 335 ft.; left-center: 385 ft.; center field: 410 ft.; right-center: 385 ft.; right field: 335 ft.; backstop: 60 ft.

Fences: Left field: 7 ft. (wire screen).

No information on the rest of the fences yet I guess. The only game I would have been around to remember was the preseason game that was played there several years ago. I don't recall what the stadium configuration was like then.

i dont remember either. But those dimensions look similar to most teams. I've been in RFK a bunch, every time i try and picture how anyone would play baseball in there. Never looks like enough room

Assuming you've been there mainly for concerts, they lose about 7,000 seats when it is configured for baseball.

Stadium Capacity by Configuration

Concert Performances - 52,000
Soccer/Football Games - 56,000
Baseball games - 45,000
Seating Capacity: 56,692
Scaled Down House - 16,900
Mezzanine Level, 9 Private Boxes - 175
300 Level, 5 Private Boxes - 60, Director's Box - 66

I remember hearding that the DC United was pissed because some of the seats that would have to be removed would be their prime seats. Since the MLS season runs at the same time as baseball season and since the conversion takes too long to switch back and forth for every game the United would just end up losing some seats.

Boo hoo.

:) They care a little bit here in DC< but not as much as getting a happy baseball team back.

I don't care, but I guess when they are the only professional sports team in DC that has had ANY kind of success in the past decade you have to show them a little respect.

Just so long as they don't get too carried away.

their outfield seating reminds me of the vet.

this place looks like a dump, but at least its a home, and its a grass field

Those seat prices look pretty reasonable, although you never know what the sight lines and setback will feel like.

As for the soccer whining: good.

not to mention that in two years it'll be a different statium and who knows what they'll charge after we are all hooked.

Smug, the prices at the new ballpark will likely be derived from a study of what the traffic bears at other big league parks.

In the first year at the new park, the club is likely to ask stiff prices, then modify down if the demand is soft. If the seats and concessions and such move pretty good at the new, higher prices, just hope that they'll not go any higher.

I base my comments on my experiences and observations in Detroit. The first season, with everybody coming to games out of the excitement and curiosity over the new ballpark, totalled out to a decent attendance figure. But as the team stunk in later years, the numbers came down. To their credit, the Tigers brought down many of the seat prices. They generally are all gone and thus unavailable for spur-of-the-moment walkup sale, but Comerica Park has a section of remote seats for just $5. This gets you through the gate and if you're just going to walk around, smoke, etc, they are a great deal. I typically buy several dozen of these each year, but this is best done in April and in bulk. I see the cheap seats at RFK as a similar deal.

The bottom line is: people should attend as many RFK games as possible in these next few years. Expect a jump when the new park opens, but also recognize greater amenities in terms of restrooms, concessions, retail venues, and general amusements that make for a nicer family outing. I always felt historic Tiger Stadium was a great park to go to with your buddies, but Comerica Park is a better place to go with your family.

If this team can make any noise at all in its first year, they will gain a solid following. I'm not talking Division champs, just improvement and being mentioned in the wild card race.

Baseball fans around here are so tired of watching the Orioles make no attempt to improve that anything that even vaguely resembles a winner will be embraced by this town.

Hell, even if they DON'T resemble a winner, but they at least look like they are TRYING to win, they will be embraced by this town.

The only problem is that until there is a real owner in place it will be difficult to get a sense of what this team will be willing to do to win.

New ownership would be out of thier mind to not spend... on good players.

The O's fan in me will still defend the Belle signing. He WAS a good player when they signed him. Maybe he was a cancer, but he was a good player.

They couldn't have known that his career was going to be cut so short by that injury.

But I would point to signings like David Segui & Will Clark as examples of players what you shouldn't do.

I was reading an article this morning about how Steiny was hot for Belle when the O's snatched him up. George turned around and upped his offer to Bernie Williams who other wise would have been headed to the redsox. Did george dodge a bullet or what?

Well, you could say he dodged a bullet, but it certainly would not have hurt him as much as it hurt the O's, or at least as much as the O's were able to CLAIM that it hurt them. Considering that 70% of the contract was insured, the Belle contract was just another excuse that Angelos could use for not spending money to improve the team.

Well i wasnt thinking aobut the O's. But think in 98' the middle of thier world series run, loosing Bernie and picking up cancer/Mr. No_play.

True, but being saddled with Belle's contract, even if it wasn't insured, wouldn't have been a major issue for NY. They would have just traded for/signed another All Star to take his place.

The impact of losing Bernie on those teams is something that can't really be measured though. You know his production would probably have been replaced, but what would the off the field impact have been?

The Nationals can build a lot friendships by getting out of the gate without falling below .500. If they're good in April and still near .500 by the All-Star Break, they'll develop a following.

If they stink it up the first 40 games or so, it could be quite disappointing at the box office.

I like soccer, and I am a HUGE fan of the MLS Champion DC United. It is one more team to support in the spring. This will make it a priority to get them a soccer specific stadium that they have been talking about for five years......As for tickets, by hook or crook, I will be at the April 14th Grand Opening.

they are going to share the staduim durring the season. DC United is upset though, because they loose about 100 of thier primo seats for soccer games. But, I'm sure some compormise was made.

I imagine they will tear the place down after the new places are built for the Nats and the United. I grew up in the stadium area, and to not see it anymore would be an absolute SHOCK to my system.

I am looking for some of you to join my Washington Nationals sports talk board at www.peoplesforum.com (http://www.peoplesforum.com). It will take you only five minutes to sign up and register. After you do, access Member Folders, go to The Washington-Baltimore Sports Group, and after you click, you will see the thread for the Washington Nationals (there is a thread for THAT other MLB team in Maryland). I OWN the forum so you talk Nats until your heart is content. I hope to see you there.
