Too bad MLB couldn't have made sure all this went down earlier so the new ownership would have been in place for this offseason.

It would be nice to hear from an enthusiastic owner out there assuring people that the team will compete. I'm not sure I trust Bowden with him answering to MLB like he is.

I dont see an owner being in place till nearly April. Its going to be a mad scramble to start the season

Yeah, I heard late April meaning that Bowden and Robinson would ride out the first season. Nothing wrong with Robinson managing the team as the locals will surely enjoy seeing him.

As long as he can stay awake during the games. :)

But Bud and his boys could have made sure this all went down in time to find a new owner so that the new owner could hire his own management team.

Unfortunately just about everything Bud does is backwards.

I'm glad to see there is finally a team to replace the Senators. Let's call Frank Howard out of retirement to coach.

Anyone think that Angelos and the O's are going to be stinging even more with home town hero Frank Robinson as the Washington Coach?

There could be some interesting attendance-figure contrasts between the Orioles and the Nationals. In particular, I'd keep an eye on what sort of crowds the Birds draw against Tampa Bay, Toronto, Kansas City and such while Washington is hosting NL attractions. The days/series where both teams are at home should be intriguing.

Steered here by a mention in the MLB fan forum for the Nationals. I'm a big fan of a certain other AL team, but am interested in the Washington situation and pulling for the team.

4SURE.
I assume everyone saw the story on the official nationals site (from JAN-1).
GM saying they will not get Odalis perez as the max they are allowed to spend by MLB is 6 MIL this season on a FA starting pitcher and Perez will likely go at around 8 MIL.
Gotta figure a new owner would go for the extra 2 MIL.
I got a faint hope Bowden is trying to embarrass MLB into upping the allowed amount by going public with this, but that's probably wishful thinking.
This team could really use a quality LHP. With the roster changes (adding Guillan and replacing Carbrera with Christian Guzman) they could at least be a wild card contender late in the season if they had one more quality starter.
ON THE O's-Nats thing . . .
There's a real good article on ESPN on the whole thing. The author (an espn writer based in NYC who is a DC native) made the point that the qurestion is not - as Angelos cliams - whether the area can support two teams, its whether Baltimore can support 1 team on its own (without the huge revenue from Washington in the form of season ticket sales, casual ticket purchases from DC tourists and DC TV viewing).
Made sense to me.
