Paul Byrd? We let Ortiz go for a guy with a 4.6 ERA? With that ERA at least he'll fit right into the Angels staff.

Now, don't everybody speak up at once....

Now's the time for Byrd to start getting into a rhythm and pull off a Tommy John impersonation. Baffle the opposition with intriguing offspeed stuff. I don't think his fastball tops out at 90 mph, more like 85, but then he can float one up at 62....whiff.

Give Bryd a chance. He'll work out well. Ortiz wasn't geting any better. Bryd is starting the road to returning to the pitcher he was in K.C. and we got him for cheap.

Trust me, he was a good signing.

Between the two of them, I don't know which one I'd give up my bag of little league baseballs for....

His performance tonight bears that out. 7 innings of shutout ball. Great job.

Watch Byrd sometime. From a full windup, his motion is kind of funny, a lengthy windup and delivery, old fashioned, if you catch my drift. But, apparently, effective.

Byrd has turned into one of the best #5 pitchers around. Several quality starts in a row, and even though he didn't get the decision today, he went 7 for, what, the 4th time in a row? and lowered his ERA to 3.75. He's doing great. Keep it up Paul.

I use to criticize Byrd as not being Mr. Consistency. I've got to take it back. The guy has been superb of late. He gives up 1 run, then 3, then a complete game shutout. And this is our #5 pitcher? Holy Toledo, this whole staff has been just amazing, the best starting staff the Angels have ever had.

Holy toledo! Byrd threw 7 superlative innings against the Red Sox today, and made one stinking mistake in the eighth to lose it. His bullpen didn't help, giving up a two run HR , but it was all moot in any event since the hitters all took the day off. Just to rest up for Baltimore, I guess.

So assuming that we get in the playoff, and our roatation shrinks, who do propose stays in, Santana or Byrd? I personally think that Santana, along with Escobars return would definatly help shore up our pen.
