If he started this thread by saying, 'damn, I watched my copy of that Bucs-Eagles game from the NFCC game a few years back, and those birds just crumbled when it counted. And for all those who said my Bucs couldn't play in the cold, you ought to get yourself a copy of this. I mean, damn!' - hey, I got no argument.

But to specifically use language that "incites" others is pushing the envelope. I'm glad he's enjoying his attention... and now I guess I'm done with this topic. After reading this entire thread, I am disturbed. It's like I'm seeing the E**N boards brought back to life, complete with baiting (on all sides), taunting, and general shitheadedness. Look... I'm not going to go around and point fingers at posters, but truth be told, it's bullshit like this that turns a LOT of people on this site off. Why are we here and not at E**N? Because we have a MODERATED environment where we are able to have a set of rules that apply to everyone - from the lowliest newbie to BF1 and Cappy and the rest of those in the top 10 posters.

We have a TOS that is enforced by a solid group of mods, SMs, and admins who know what they're doing, who are trusted by their fellow posters to keep thse boards as some of the best places to talk sports and hang out on the Internet. If posters don't know whether something may be interpreted as baiting, they should probably not say it. Likewise, if someone's saying something about another TEAM (not the fans or those who post here), so be it. Disagree. Say "I don't agree with you." But at no point should we start calling others names.

I discussed a few days ago about an inherent level of respect that we all need to have for each other, whether or not it's said explicitly or implied through our actions. But if you think about it, why do you post here? Because this is, in general a place where you're respected enough by your fellow poster to be allowed to express your views. As such, it's up to each of us to have enough respect for one another to NOT post inflammatory, derogatory, or threatening comments on these boards.

The point of this dissertation, Jeff, is to use the exchange here as an example for us all to learn from. I've now been witness to nasty exchanges like these several times in the past few days on several boards. Now how does the old saying go, "those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it?" We've done enough name-calling, baiting, and downright vicious bullshit to make these boards be - no offense - objectionable.

I know a number of us are afraid that newbies will go and see these fights on the home page and they'll say to themselves "this is E**N Part II... no way in hell am I staying here." Who would you say the "best" posters here are? In my opinion, it's those who treat everyone else with respect. Note I didn't say most "knowledgable" - those are two different subjects. As various other sites on the web show, you can be the world's most knowledgable person, but if you come across as a condescending prick, you're nowhere near the best poster.

I honestly can say that I don't fit the bill... not by a long shot. I know that I don't exactly say stuff that warrants me being anywhere NEAR the top 10 in rep. I could easily list people who should be well above me in that respect. But all things considered, that's not what the rep system is here for. It's a way of saying "you made me laugh," "that was a good point," "we like having you here, man," and so forth. *shrug* If people want to have "rep circles" and give out "cumulative rep," that's their decision. Same with BOTP - the idea was to shine light on *some* of the better posters on the site and say "hey - thanks for posting here." Yes, it got bent well out of whack by myself and others, but... in retrospect, I can see what Sully was trying to accomplish with it.

I think the bottom line that I'm trying to say here is that we cannot let the labors of those who have worked so hard on this site to make it be potentially one of the best places on the Internet for sports - Sully, Ryr, the SMs, mods, and site bookie - go down the shitter.

I know it doesn't compare, but I used to teach swim lessons and it may be a coincidence, but the worst kids were always the daycare kids...why? because their parents were shit and knew nothing about raising them.
