D-Backs claimed Adam Dunn off of waivers and worked out a trade with the Reds. Reds get a minor league pitcher (Dallas Buck) and two PTBNL.

This surprises me -- I thought that Dunn would end up with an AL team, since is not good defensively.

Big move by the Dbacks, this really improves the lineup. Now they have a legitimate power threat bracketed by the likes of Reynolds, Upton, Young, Drew, and Jackson. With Rauch pitching very well since his trade to bolster the pen and the addition of Dunn, how do they not win the west seeing that they have the best rotation in baseball?

Statistically, isn't that the Dodgers? Or is that the staff as a whole? Either way, you have to look at this as a two-horse race between the D-Backs and the Dodgers. LA is a totally different team with two legit bats added in Casey Blake and Manny Ramirez.

I don't see this as a runaway for either team. It's likely going to be one hell of a race, as will 5 of the 6 divisions. The only sure bet right now is the other team in LA, formerly from Anaheim and previously known as the California Angels. How long does it take before they just change to a symbol like Prince? They've got the whole name-changing down.

Still, this puts the D-Backs in a nice position to do some damage. I'm really curious to see what prospects the Reds wind up getting, as Dunn would have been sure to net a pick or two through FA.

WOW that's a huge deal for the D'Backs. Great answer to the Manny deal by LA

I agree, the Dodgers still have an edge in my mind, especially if Penny comes back healthy and doesn't bomb down the stretch like he usually does. My money is still on the Dodger blue.

The Diamondbacks have the better starting rotation statistically. They edge out the Dodgers in ERA, BAA, they've given up less walks, and recorded more strikeouts. The addition of Rauch should be a big boon to the bullpen and take some pressure off the staff.

does anyone feel the reds were ripped off?

I agree with what Domino said -- I don't think that we will know the answer to that until the PTBNL are named. They had better be good, because I assume that Dunn would have been a Type A free agent and that they would have received two draft picks as compensation.

The D'Backs are bringing a knife to a gun fight. Manny's the better hitter.
:p

That said, the Blue Crew better stop losing these late-inning, bully-blow-it games.

Seriously, i was Pi$$ed after seeing both Saturday's and Sunday's lackluster bullpen pitching.

Tonight's hire wire act by Broxton wasn't much better (2 runs after loading the bases???) Dude came out and tossed three pitches in the 8th only to come back out and almost give the game back in the 9th.

Here's some numbers that show how much Manny brings to the table......

3-4-5 hitters for the Blue Crew:
9 for 11.

3-4-5 hitters for the Phillies tonight??

3 for 13 (with Utley being the only one to get the hits)

:p GOTCHA!!

We're tied now. You losing to lowly Colorado. The Dodgers beating the "High flying Phillies" (as Vin called them at the end of the game).

An interesting stat.

As of last night, the D'Backs are 16-19 since acquiring Adam Dunn.

And the Dodgers are 30-22 since acquiring Casey Blake.
