The Marlins had THE best chance of getting Manny but for the fact that they wanted, er demanded, payoff money to bring Manny in even though the Boston Red Sox offered to pay Manny's entire salary. Meanwhile, the Dodgers were the third man in on the deal and got Manny.

Basically, the Marlins blew it.

They have a $20 Mill payroll and had a chance to bring in a guy who wants that exact figure and could put butts in the seats- as witnessed at Dodger games.

Anyone else here think the Marlins screwed the pooch on this one????

Tomorrow's Marlins Super-Saturday game features a Mike Jacobs adult tee-shirt giveaway and a concert by Jaci Velasquez.

Yup, those are definitely much better ways to put butts in the seats than bringing a future Hall of Famer over for 2 1/2 months to help your team win the division.

Eh..

Marlins were trying to take advantage of the Red Sox desperation, and almost got away with it before the Dodgers upped the ante.

The Dodgers could afford to bring Manny in..the Marlins could not without payment.

And, moreso, the Dodgers needed Manny and his offense alot more than Florida did. Manny wasn't going to bring in a ton of fans to Miami.

Not to that crappy football stadium.

The Sox were offernig Manny *with* his salary covered.

The Marlins wanted *more*.

You mean to tell me that a player of Manny's caliber is being handed to you on a silver platter for a short term and with no commitment on your part for the future and you ask for more????

Well, yes. When it's costing you young, quality players that you have under control past this season.
