Wow, Denver is a 3 point favorite vs. KC?

Thats crazy.

Yeah, it is. But it is a bitter rivalry and the home team got the three point bump. The thing about the start of the NFL season, betting wise, is that even Vegas is unsure about how the teams are going to come out.

Rotary is right, you've got 5 games there where they're basically calling them tossups. The only thing they're giving is 3 for homefield advantage. If they're right, the opening week of the season should have some incredible games. Even Detroit versus Chicago, you're talking two rather closely matched teams. Detroit has a lot of young talent, but this early in the season they are likely to make some mistakes that will provide Chicago with the chance to win the game.

Just offhand, looking at games where you could get some value, I like Minnesota giving 4.5, Tampa Bay -1.5 at Washington, and Detroit +3 at Chicago.

If you want to hold me to my offhand three teamer, okay. Anybody else have any thoughts?

I like Arizona +11 against St. Louis. I don't think St. Louis will be as good as they've been in the past, and I believe Arizona will keep it a bit closer than 11.

Yeah, that is a lot of points. But a new coach in place at Arizona and playing in the dome. Granted Bulger is still a question mark at qb, IMO, & the offensive line is in flux.

Wouldn't touch this one with a ten foot pole.

Hey, Sully, this topic of conversation O.K., content wise? Don't want to be breaking any bylaws or anything.

If I was putting money down, I'd probably shy away from it, too...

But 11 points? That's a bit much, eh?

The one thing that would put me on the game is the fact that defenses are always farther along at the start of the season than offenses. Having said that, coupled with my previous statements about Bulger and the o-line, 11 points just might be something to think about.

yeah i think that the +11 for the cards looks pretty good. they might even suprise and beat the rams.

can someone explain how this works???

the negative 4.5 for hte vikes...does that mean the Cowboys or the vikigns are the favorites????

The Vikes are 4.5 point favorites. You would subtract 4.5 points from their total score for the betting line score.

OK....so you bet..that the vikes will beat the Boys by 4.5 points or not.... i get it...

Yup, that's the deal. The .5 point that Vegas puts on some games is referred to as "the Hook". That way the game doesn't end in a "push".

And let me tell you this, Vegas doesn't refer to it as "the Hook" for nothing. You can not believe how much that .5 point is worth, in terms of actually betting on a game or not.

Yeah, those guys in Vegas don't know how to set point spreads.

First game out of the box is a push . . . even though considering the 3 turnovers by the Colts in the red zone, this should have easily been an Indianapolis cover, if not an outright victory.

*sigh*

For what it is worth, I have been updating the outcomes of the games (in relation to the spread), on the original post. If this is not needed or wanted, just say so, and I will stop doing it.
