Starting QB wide open

2/22: New York Jets HC Eric Mangini announced the starting quarterback job would be an open competition in 2008, according to the Record (http://www.northjersey.com/sports/jets/Mangini_declares_QB_war.html). Mangini, who made the announcement at the Indianapolis scouting combine, dismissed any thought that Pennington would be traded, instead he will remain and compete with second-year QB Kellen Clemens. Neither player was particularly effective on a consistent basis last season, as New York finished the season ranked 25th in passing offense (188.4 yards-per-game).
