Did Karl Malone officially retire? Is he injured? Is he still contemplating a return? Help me out here, people.

My personal belief is that he is content to bide his time and see how the Lakers (or other teams) shake out, before he desides if or which team he may return to.
A pretty good position to be in.

I read that he won't be ready to come back until January at the earliest. Sounds a lot like someone who is seeing how things turn out before making a decision.

Sounds to me like he is trying to get a championship by riding the coat tails of a team that looks to be a contender in February. That is a very sad and disgraceful way to get a championship. He should just retire he is only hurting his reputation.

Actually, I think he's looking more towards that all-time leading scorer title. If he were looking to win a title this year, I doubt the Lakers would be anywhere on his radar. But he could average a good number of points on this Lakers team.

right, kg. I was surprised that Malone didn't retire after the shaq trade and the residual trades that followed. His professed desire was to win a ring. This Lakers team won't do that this year, probably not for 2-3 years at least. But they sure look promising at this point

On the other hand, Malone is paid to sit in a great seat to watch NBA action. Maybe he's smarter than thought

The reports have been that if Malone does decide to return, he will return to the Lakers. That's what Malone's agent has been reporting to newspapers.

If I was Malone, I would either hang it up, or come back to the Lakers.
His legacy would be tarnished otherwise.
