ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The Oakland Athletics (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/oak/;_ylt=AnlOfBlQNdY6V7nAmh.Acyupu7YF) activated rookie infielder Donnie Murphy (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7459/;_ylt=AuNNAKtLYMpbYrx3GbcMX5Wpu7YF) from the 15-day disabled list on Monday and recalled left-handed pitcher Dan Meyer (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7426/;_ylt=AiJtckQOhsd1KecZQH8RnV6pu7YF) from Triple-A Sacramento.
Murphy had been sidelined since Aug. 19 because of a strained ribcage muscle. He has appeared in 30 games and entered Monday night's game 19-for-86 with four homers and 14 RBIs. He was called up from Sacramento on July 25 when shortstop Bobby Crosby (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7223/;_ylt=AuIARpv.3w7WsC6U8iXrbTepu7YF) went on the DL because of a broken left hand.
Meyer was called up after left-hander Jay Marshall (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7973/;_ylt=Am8AT1jx8k2K01Ci6JcOfbmpu7YF) left the club to attend his grandmother's funeral in St. Louis. This is Meyer's second stint with the A's this season. He was a combined 8-2 with a 3.99 while pitching for Sacramento and Double-A Midland.

Dan Meyer is a guy I am hoping to get a good look at and see what he can do. He's still a solid prospect and maybe someone to look at, hopefully, in 2008

He's the last guy remaining from the Hudson deal. Charles Thomas and Juan Cruz have both moved on to other teams.

Maybe that's another reason I want to get a look at him. Whereas the Mulder trade worked out great for Oakland, the Hudson one did not. One of only a few trades by Beane that didnt go the way he wanted them too.

The Mulder deal sucked balls for you guys. I mean, if it was just Calero and Haren for Mulder, it's not as bad. But when you include Daric Barton. ugh.
You never know though. Barton could turn out to be a bust and Mulder (still only 30) could throw 8 more All-Star years of baseball.

Yeah and at the time the Mulder deal looked outstanding for the Cards. Calero was a solid reliever, Barton a huge prospect but who knows, and Haren didnt show THAT much up to that point. Mulder, on the other hand, was the best pitcher in baseball from 2000 to 2004 or whatever it was. I guess that's the way it goes sometimes. The Cards did sign Mulder for 2008, so we'l see.

And who knows? Maybe you wouldn't have won the WS if you guys never made that deal.

With Loaiza gone...Meyer could be an option in the rotation for 2008..maybe?

I think that Barton is going to be a STUD. He's gotta play everyday... just put him in and let him go. I think you gotta play the kids. Quit screwing around with Shannon Stewert, et.al. and play Swish, Dan Johnson, and Barton at RF, 1B, and DH respectively.

Agreed
You'll never know what you got in a young player if you don't throw them out there and see what they can do for ya.
Veterans are good to have in the fold to help the youngster improve, but they cannot dominiate the playing time.
