BOSTON (AP) - Boston Celtics forward James Posey was suspended by the NBA for one game on Friday for pleading no contest to reckless driving stemming from an incident in April.

Posey's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said his client will appeal, calling the April 9 arrest in Miami Beach a "bad arrest." Posey was arrested on drunken driving charges while he was a member of the Miami Heat. The 30-year-old Posey signed with the Celtics on Monday.

"He wasn't driving," Bartelstein told The Associated Press. "This is a case where we need to make sure the NBA has all the information. Once they learn all the facts and what really happened, they will eliminate the suspension."

The NBA said Posey would serve the suspension, without pay, for the Celtics' regular-season opener against Washington on Nov. 2 in Boston.
Posey pleaded no contest — which is neither an admission of guilt nor a proclamation of innocence — about one month ago because he didn't want the case to affect his opportunities in free agency, Bartelstein said.
A spokesman for the Celtics had no comment.

Posey, a member of the Heat team that won the NBA championship in 2006, is entering his ninth season.

He completes an offseason rebuilding that had Boston acquire veterans stars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen along with role players Scot Pollard and Eddie House.

Posey, a 6-foot-8 forward known for his defensive skills, brings versatility to the team. He's averaged 9.5 points per game and 4.9 rebounds during his career.

Am I the only Celtics fan that isn't excited about the off season moves? Maybe that's because I am pessimistic regarding them...but still

I was gonna go with the Chris Rock 'I know ya did it, just admit it' but if he wasn't even driving...

You're like one of two here, so it's tough to get a good read on C's fans. One of my friends is happy to see they'll be making the playoffs, if nothing else, though it was tough to see Jefferson go.

I don't like the idea of trading away half of our team for two old guys. I don't see them in the playoffs...Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, and even Miami are still pretty good. Can't rule out Toronto, NJ, and Washington either. The East is tough.

The Celtics are in the playoffs, it's as simple as that. A young PG sure, but all he needs to do is play defense and that's one of his strengths. A guy to put there to get rebounds, perhaps you could still find a FA in the bargain bin for that. A healthy Allen (Tony) will provide good depth and the hopefully the rookies can step in for some quality minutes too.

The C's are int he playoffs barring some major injury to 2 of the big 3, if not all 3 for significant lengths of time.

I hope you're right, but I am going to prepare myself for another year of disappointment. By the way, if the Celtics played in the West they wouldn't have to worry about playing defense. ;)
