MONTREAL (CP) - New York Islanders defenceman Radek Martinek (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/player_bio.asp?player_id=2588) left Saturday afternoon's game against the Montreal Canadiens on a stretcher after suffering an apparent left ankle injury.
Martinek was heading back into his own zone to retrieve the puck at 12:16 of the first period when he took a hit from Canadiens rookie Guillaume Latendresse (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/player_bio.asp?player_id=4110) into the end boards.
As he was falling to the ice, Martinek's left ankle turned underneath him.
Martinek remained on the ice for several minutes writhing in pain before being taken off on a stretcher.
That sounds pretty bad. I'm glad it's only his ankle.
