After closing out 2006 with a 5-0 thumping of an Eastern Conference foe, the Boston Bruins, the Nashville Predators return to action to face more familiar opponents from the West in the first week of 2007.

Monday, Jan. 1 - Colorado Avalanche - 2:00 p.m.
The Predators welcome in the new year with a rematch against the Colorado Avalanche. In the first meeting of the season--Nov. 11 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center--Nashville shut out the Avalanche 1-0. Scottie Upshall scored his second goal of the season 9:35 into the first period and Chris Mason stopped all 42 shots he faced for the fourth shutout of his career.


Veteran center Joe Sakic has been running away with the team lead in scoring. Former Predators forward Andrew Brunette has been pacing the supporting cast, while onetime Nashville defenseman Karlis Skrastins is logging lots of ice time and ranks among the league's top shot-blockers. The blue line is minus all-star defenseman Rob Blake (to L.A. via free agency) but has been bolstered by the off-season additions of free agents Jordan Leopold and Ken Klee.


Nashville has won seven of the past eight meetings between these two clubs and four of the past five at the GEC. Like the Predators, the Avalanche have scored a lot of goals this season, so it's likely this second meeting will pack a lot more fireworks than the 1-0 result in November.
