is that division magic number or wild card?
arent we something like 14 or 15 up on a playoff berth?

That is the division number.
In order to clinch the division, we have to win and the Flubs have to lose a total of 38 games.
So, if the Cubs lost 19 more games and we managed to win 19 more games, the Cubs would mathematically be eliminated in the division.

man, the way we're playing, we might win 37 out of 49 games that are left, much less the magic number, DESPITE yesterday's fiasco.
just my opinion.

"Houston, what is your ETA on elimination?
We're at T-minus 29 and counting, do you read?
Roger, Houston. The rocket is go...ing fishing. Do you copy?

Weren't the Cards in the World Series 17 years ago, in the '87 Series against the Twins?

The Cards clinched a postseason spot today. Even if they somehow lose the division by losing every game from here on out and the Cubs win every game, the Cards have eliminated all other wild card contenders.

now we need to count magic number for homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. Right now, If I did the math right, the Cardinals magic number for home field advantage is 5 over the Braves, and 3 over the Dodgers(this doesn't take into account tie breakers, this is to win straight up)

There really should be a magic number for us to lock up home field advantage in the World Series if we get there.
Oh I forgot, they already fucked that up by letting the All Star game dictate home field.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
