Okay, I know this is going to sound . . . treasonous. Even though they are our hated rivals, I, personally, like the direction in which they're going.

Tillman is going to be a stud at corner. And their defense will continue to improve. I still think, and I've gone on the ESPN Bears board many times, that Urlacher should be moved outside. Lovie, though, says they want him running vertically, not horizontally.

They have a lot of question marks in the receiving corps and Jones is somewhat of a question mark. Grossman will struggle. . .all new qb's do. Offensive line. . .shaky.

Still, they are young and will, IMO, be 6-10 if all goes well.

"On opening day against the Packers at Lambeau Field, both teams had battled to a 6-6 tie toward the end of regulation. Chicago had a good feeling as the Packers began their final drive; the defense was playing well. Green Bay drove down the field and was in position for a chip-shot field goal with 10 seconds left. Things suddenly did not look good. Packers kicker Chester Marcol (dubbed the "Polish Prince" by former Bears coach Abe Gibron) lined up for the kick-which was low. The kick was blocked by veteran Bears defensive tackle Alan Page-making the Bears believe they had caught a break. Murphy's law ruled the day and year for the Bears, however, and the ball bounced right in to Marcol's hands, and he waltzed into the end zone, giving the Packers a 12-6 win."

Just a little pleasant look back .....

If they'd only stuck with Phipps and Avellini ....

i don't think that the Bears will be anywhere near good this year. However, they won't be the Cardinals either. Their defense could keep them close in a few games, and maybe pull a few out for them. They will probably have a lot of games that are within a field goal of victory.

I can't help but wonder what that offense is going to do. They've got an almost rookie quarterback, a question mark at running back (Who I think could do some good things), some major unknowns at WR, a decent TE and decent O-line.

If their offense can overachieve, then I could see them somewhere around 6-10 this year. If it flops, closer to 3-4 wins total.

That being said, I think they've got a pretty respectable defense that will at least keep them in most of their games. Bears fans will probably have to put up with a lot of close games this year.

I agree with you completely. Their running game could have flashes, but it seems that it has been that way for them the past few years. Thomas never seems to be able to put together a complete season recently. However, I completely agree about the close games. I think 6-10 is a pretty good guage for them. But with a few close games, the defense could give them a chance to win maybe 7-8.

Didn't Urlacher start out at outside LB training camp of his rookie season and struggle? Then they moved him inside and things started clicking for him?

I'm really not sure about his original positioning in his rookie year. But I do think you are right. However, and this is all just fuzzy memory, he was the best athlete in the lb corp at the time and he was moved inside.

And, quite frankly, he really isn't a mlb. Everytime (mostly) he is just invisible. I think Henderson takes his blocking assignments of him with extra disregard for his talent. He has said on numerous occasions that he is way overhyped. A media creation of the Chicago and NFL media.

More often than not, you see him trying to run around blockers instead of taking the blocker and trying to destroy the play that way. We'll see.

Hmm... This looks like a pretty accurate statement right here.

partially. The QB part doesn't apply since he was injured all season. The o-line can hardly qualify as decent though. Otherwise fairly close.

It's one of the few chances I get to pat myself on the back, so I have to take it while it's there for the taking.

I don't know if i'd exactly call this accurate, some points are, some aren't. The rookie quarterback is a moot point, but did play well when he was in, the rb was a question mark but did do some good things, unknowns at wideout, bad TE's and a bad o-line. You could say the o-line is moot too because of injuries. We were one win away from from your 'overacheiving offense" prediction even with a completly disgustingly horrible offense.
